I bought this sound system to be used with a band I play in and to drive an electric drum set and other stuff at my house. Our band members are mostly wind instrument musicians and we use MP3 accompaniment during our performances. We have used a portable Fender system for years and it has worked well for us but it is very unwieldy to use and is about worn out. Also, the Fender system doesn't actually belong to us so sometimes it isn't available to use. That is what brought on this purchase. We were doing a gig and couldn't use the Fender. I was going to borrow another system from a friend but he was out of town and we couldn't ever get together to work out the details. I've wanted a system of my own for a long time, so I don't have to beg when the Fender isn't available. And since we practice at my house, it would be nice to have a system there for that purpose as well (we've been just using a guitar amp during practice). So, I broke down and ordered this unit and so far I've been very impressed.
First of all, this system is very small for a 150 watt sound system. It only weighs about 30 pounds and is about the size of a small suitcase. That's a plus; it's very easy to carry around. The Fender we use (which is an older model, 10+ years old; the newer models seem to be more portable) is so bulky and heavy that it is a pain to carry. The Fender is designed to be portable, everything boxes up together into a single case with carrying handle. But it's too bulky and heavy to carry very far. Fender should have installed a retractable handle and wheels on this thing so you can roll it to where it is needed. But the Behringer is the perfect carrying size. When I first got it in, I was worried that it wouldn't be powerful enough because it is so small; but that hasn't been an issue at all.
Everything on the Behringer packs up into a nice, easy to handle case and it's easy to unpack and setup as well. It comes with all the cables you need for the sound system, plus a mic and a cable for plugging in auxiliary inputs such as CD players or in our case, an MP3 player. I already have several cables and connectors for jacking our accompaniment and mics in so the cables included (besides the speaker and power cables) were a bonus for me.
One problem we always had with the Fender system is that it drives our accompaniment music well enough but anytime we ever tried to drive the background music and a microphone at the same time, it would stumble (basically the background music will fade in and out at times when a mic is in use; it might just need some tweaking but it was never important enough to worry about for us; another band member ran the sound back then and I never looked into the problem, it was probably just an adjustment issue); the Behringer doesn't seem to have any problem at all driving multiple inputs. In my tests, it worked well with background music, electric drums and someone on a mic all at once, with no issues.
This system sounds great! The sound quality is top notch and was one of the first positives I noticed about the system out of the box. You can adjust the sound mix (bass, middle and treble) using the knobs on each channel or overall using the equalizer slides at the top of the mixing board. I tend to control the mix at the channel level. You can get a lot of sound out of these small speakers by turning everything up. For instance, if you set the equalizer slides all to max and turn the bass, middle and treble controls up on the input channels, you can max out the volume on this system and it really puts out a lot of sound. Ordinarily, you wouldn't run it full out like that but it's good to know that you can get a lot of volume out of it when needed. So far, it has proven to be more than powerful enough for our needs.
I saw in one of the other reviews that mentioned the system doesn't do bass well. I have found just the opposite; when properly adjusted, it does bass very well and the sound is excellent!
The system is very easy to use and the documentation was excellent; it detailed every aspect of the system. I like almost everything about this product with one minor exception. As you can see in the picture, it is designed to be used with the lid propped partially open. Well, you can use it that way but it would work better if the lid was propped open at a full 90 degree angle or closer to 90 instead of the angle provided. I guess you could get it adjusted and then prop the lid open as shown but I find myself not using the prop at all because I have to tweak the adjustments during the performance from chart to chart. Consequently, I have to be careful not to break the lid while it is hanging open. Like I said, it's just a minor drawback to the design. The rest of the design is more industrial (not necessarily pretty or appealing to the eye) but it works and that is all I care about. The speakers aren't unattractive and when packed up, it looks quite neat but if you're worried about appearances during use, you might want to hide the control head out of view.
All in all, I really like this system. It's affordable and functional and very portable. And I bought it from Amazon using my Prime membership and was able to get it delivered overnight for only $3.99! That's simply awesome!
